Outdoor Learning at Allesley Hall Primary School

At Allesley Hall, we believe some of the best learning happens outdoors. Our children explore, create, and discover across our woodland, field, playgrounds, and gardens. We are fortunate to have extensive grounds that enrich our curriculum and provide inspiring opportunities for every child.

Outdoor learning is a key part of our curriculum, alongside Belonging, Oracy, Diversity, and High Expectations. It helps children develop confidence, resilience, teamwork, and a love of learning.

Every class enjoys outdoor lessons linked to the curriculum, from science investigations to storytelling and creative arts. In addition, each year group takes part in forest school–style sessions, where children learn practical skills and connect with nature.

Outdoor learning nurtures curious, confident, and caring children who are ready to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

Our dell is home to an outdoor classroom, fire pit, outdoor kitchen and even a magical woodland door, sparking curiosity and imagination. These spaces allow children to experience hands-on learning, connect with nature and develop skills in ways that go beyond traditional lessons.

We place a strong emphasis on outdoor provision not only to enhance learning but also to nurture children’s wellbeing and mental health. Time spent outdoors helps our pupils to feel calm, confident and connected, supporting their personal growth as well as their academic progress.

As part of our enhanced outdoor learning provision, our children enjoy regular 'Outdoor Adventurers' sessions with Mrs Vickers and Mr Styles, our specialist PE teacher throughout the year.

Each week, the children spend time outside in our wonderful grounds. They undertake a range of activities such as:

  • Orienteering
  • Team Building Challenges
  • Problem Solving Challenges
  • Climbing
  • Balancing
  • Den Building
  • And much much more...

These opportunities help our children to develop in the following ways:

  • Speaking and listening skills
  • Logical thinking and problem solving
  • Turn taking
  • Co ordination skills
  • Gross motor skills
  • Resilience and Perseverance
  • Team work

Our Extended Learning Territory

We always aim to make the most of our school grounds and our surrounding locality to enhance our children's learning experiences.
