Curriculum Intent

At Allesley Hall Primary School, our curriculum is designed to engage, inspire, and challenge every child, fostering a lifelong love of learning. It is rooted in our belief that every child should experience a strong sense of belonging, know that their voice matters through purposeful oracy, and encounter a rich diversity of ideas, people, and experiences that reflect the world around them.

Through a carefully balanced mix of thematic and discrete subject teaching, we ensure knowledge and skills build progressively from the Early Years to the end of Key Stage 2, in full alignment with the National Curriculum. As children move through each phase, they develop secure knowledge and procedural fluency, allowing them to grow in confidence and deepen their understanding of themselves and their place in the world.

High Expectations for All

We hold high expectations for every learner. Our curriculum is deliberately sequenced to build upon prior knowledge and prevent cumulative dysfluency. Where gaps are identified, targeted support ensures that all children, including those with special educational needs, can access and succeed within the curriculum. Individualised scaffolding and structured opportunities for overlearning enable every child to achieve success and develop self-belief.

A Curriculum Designed for Coherence and Depth

A clear sequence of learning underpins every subject, ensuring continuity and coherence across year groups. Teachers have a precise understanding of the knowledge and skills pupils need at each stage, enabling them to design engaging, challenging lessons that promote deep learning.

Grounded in cognitive science, our curriculum recognises the importance of reducing cognitive load and embedding key knowledge in long-term memory. Regular retrieval practice, deliberate rehearsal, and structured homework tasks support fluency and retention. We believe that creativity and curiosity flourish when children have secure foundations on which to build.

Developing Voice, Agency, and Understanding

Oracy is central to our curriculum. We explicitly teach the skills of speaking, listening, and debate so that children can express their ideas clearly, think critically, and engage respectfully with others. Through talk, drama, and performance, pupils learn to reason, question, and connect learning across the curriculum, developing confidence as articulate and thoughtful communicators.

Our curriculum also celebrates diversity. Through inclusive representation and diverse role models, we broaden horizons, challenge stereotypes, and promote respect for all. We ensure that every child sees themselves reflected in what they learn and feels valued within our school community.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

We recognise that powerful learning happens both inside and beyond the classroom. Our commitment to outdoor learning opportunities ensures that children connect with nature, develop curiosity through exploration, and understand their role as responsible global citizens. Outdoor learning supports wellbeing, fosters resilience, encourages teamwork and problem-solving, and provides practical, real-world experiences that develop independence and social responsibility.

Values in Action

Our core values underpin every aspect of school life, promoting:

  • A positive attitude towards learning and challenge
  • Helpfulness through kindness, empathy, and respect for others
  • Perseverance and a belief in the power of yet, nurturing a growth mindset
  • The celebration of success, both individual and collective

Our Core Principles

  1. Learning is a change to long-term memory.
  2. Pupils experience a broad, ambitious curriculum and retain knowledge meaningfully by the end of each key stage.
  3. We develop resilient, caring, and confident citizens of the future.
  4. We promote a lifelong love of learning that extends beyond school life.

By embedding these principles, and our curriculum drivers of belonging, diversity, oracy, outdoor learning opportunities, and high expectations, we ensure that all children thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

At Allesley Hall Primary School, we believe every child is unique, capable, and full of potential. Together, we create a school where all children feel happy, safe, and inspired to dream big and achieve their best.

“Learning, Growing, Succeeding Together.”
